Starting January 1, 2020, if you or your family have received help or support from a children’s aid society, group home, or other child and family service provider in Ontario, you have the right to see and ask for corrections to your personal information in your file.   This is new legislation within the Child, Youth and Family Services Act called Part X. For you or your family, Part X will provide:

  • The right to request access and correction to your records of personal information.
  • More control over how your personal information is shared among service providers, with the ability to provide consent based on capacity, not age.
  • The right to a complaints process and an independent review mechanism related to the collection, use and sharing of personal information, and
  • More transparency in how your personal information is handled by service providers.

Under Ontario’s Child, Youth and Family Services Act, service providers must let you know how your personal information will be used and tell you how they might share it. They must also make sure any personal information they get from you stays private and let you know if it has been lost, shared, stolen or viewed when it should not have been.  Click here to access our Notice of Information Practices.
