Volunteer Opportunities

Whether directly or indirectly, you can be sure that as a CAS volunteer, your efforts will truly make an impact on the lives of our community’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children. Below are some of the opportunities that exist:

Drivers

Volunteer drivers transport children in the care of the Society to and from family visits, therapy or medical appointments, camp, school, daycare, etc. Drivers are reimbursed for the number of kilometres driven.

Special Friends

Special friends are matched with a child that would benefit from a positive 1:1 relationship. In this role, volunteers develop a personal relationship with their matched child by spending quality time together doing weekly activities that build self-esteem and improve social skills. This program involves a commitment of three hours per week and is open to individuals and couples.

Child Caregivers

Volunteer child caregivers provide supervision for children in the Society’s playroom while caregivers attend meetings or training.

Clerical Aides

Clerical aides assist Society staff with typing, filing, compiling statistics, phoning and preparing large mailings/resource materials.

Tutors

Volunteer tutors work on a 1:1 basis with a child one to two hours weekly. Tutors help children improve both educational and social skills through academic tutoring and emotional support. This is a great opportunity for high school and post-secondary students looking to get involved.

Case Aides

Case aides assist with a variety of tasks as assigned on a specific unit. Such duties could include preparing social histories for children involved with the Society, data entry, culling files and researching community resources.

Special Event Volunteers

Special event volunteers provide assistance for occasional and short-term assignments. They assist with events such as the annual Holiday Sponsorship program, the children’s Christmas party, the Crown Ward picnic and fundraising activities and events.
