Family Sponsorship / Holiday Programs
While the Christmas season can be a wonderful and magical time of year, for families that are already struggling to try to make ends meet, it can be a very difficult and stressful occasion.
During the winter holiday season, The Children's Aid Society of Hamilton operates two major holiday programs: the Family Sponsorship Program and the Toy Room, both of which aim at helping bring joy to those less fortunate.
Through the Family Sponsorship Program, families working with the Society and Crown Wards living independently, are provided with gifts of clothing, food, toys, gift cards, etc. Workers refer the families in greatest need from their caseload to this program and provide non-identifying information on the family to the donor, who can then use this information to customize their sponsorship package. This program provides tremendous support to those in need and is a true testament to the holiday spirit.
The Toy Room is also operated during the holiday season. Donations of new gifts for children and teens such as toiletry items, toys, clothing and gift cards are gratefully accepted. CAS workers are able to brings items from the Toy Room to children, youth and families they work with, who are not involved in the Family Sponsorship Program.
