Diversity and Inclusion
The Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton is committed to ensuring that youth and families of all cultures, races, and ethnicities in our city can access our services and that service is responsive to their unique needs.
As an agency, we are committed to creating and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment for our staff, volunteers, foster and adoptive parents, placement apprentices, and Board members.
We aim to:
- promote inclusive services for all
- promote equity and inclusion in the workplace, and
- eliminate systemic racism, oppression, and marginality.
In 2001, the Society’s Board of Directors approved the establishment of the Anti-Racism Organizational Change Initiative to enhance our ability to meet the diverse needs within the Hamilton community. This initiative, specifically the commitment to anti-oppressive practice, continues to be an important priority within the agency’s long-term strategic plan and is encapsulated within the agency’s mission, vision, and values.
The Society makes a determined effort to continually enhance services to meet the ever-changing needs of our diverse population and works to ensure staff members remain involved in critical dialogue to affect our practices, policies, and processes. We believe these efforts will lead to better outcomes for the families and children we serve.
Diversity encompasses both our differences and our similarities; reflecting on these, we can learn about each other, enhance our sense of connection, and build acceptance. In doing so, we can create a better workplace and agency no matter our race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age, or ability.
